For my 40th birthday, I wanted to celebrate with a plate that had all my favorite foods on it, but also that included a few things that I didn’t normally eat. I wanted to do a dinner that incorporated comfort food, but wasn’t overly fussy.
I would have been more than happy with just a plain salad. But I wanted to make sure that I had the right flavors and ingredients on hand to make it special. That’s why I chose an Italian pasta dish with a few different fillings. If you like fennel, you will. If you like tomato sauce, you will. If you like pasta with garlic, you will. And if you like to eat with friends, you will.
When we first started doing this we were pretty strict about not having anything that was Italian, so we chose to do a pasta dish with fennel, so that he would know what it was. Now that we have gotten a bit more adventurous, we try to do everything we can to make it a dish worth having.

We went with a fennel-mashed-potato-and-a-pepper-peanut-and-a-pepper-soup-and-a-salt-and-a-souffle-and-a-toast-and-a-toothpick-and-a-toothpick-and-a-toothpick-and-a-toothpick-and-a-toothpick.
We tried to find a good recipe for the toasting method, but they just didn’t seem to work. We used the recipe from the internet, using it to cover everything, but its not as good as we would have liked. We also tried two different recipes for the soup. The first one was good, but the second one was the worst we’ve ever had in a pot.
